Feedback For Idea 1 - The Drug Trip Idea
Focus group
Someone in my focus group said that I need to actually look at how I am going to compose some of the visual effects and learn how to do some techniques which are the next step up using after effects, I have taken this feedback on board and if I decide to go forth with this idea I will look up some tutorials and will hopefully try to learn some techniques with my visual effects/vfx to pull off professional look within the short film.
Another piece of feedback I was given was to actually look at the ethics I need to consider to doing a drug trip, things such as, if the college would let me compose a film about drug trip, how extreme I want to do it or if I want to make it a bit like an educational short film showing the effects of these sorts of drugs instead and to make it less offensive, I have taken this feedback on board and if I decide to go forth with this idea I will consider how I’m going to make it less offensive, how I’m going to compose a short film about a drug trip without including any drugs within the footage, and if I’m actually allowed to make stuff like this.
Conclusion:
Because I am very interested in double exposure techniques I am going to go forth with this idea, with doing an experimental music video about a drug trip gives me a massive space to be able to pull off these double exposure techniques with drug trip visuals such as kaleidoscope visuals and other colorful visuals in which I will be able to pair with the footage of the man on the trip and the situations which made him become like this. Because of these factors and looking back at the success of my music video which uses the same sort of techniques I think going forth with this idea would be a more interesting and experimental project to make which is very appealing to me as a filmmaker. I am going to take the feedback given to me and develop this idea in an experimental way which is good for me.
Feedback For Idea 2 - Satanic Rock God Idea
Focus group
A piece of feedback I got was how am I actually going to pull off the satanic rock god character as I stated to them I am going to do lots of experiments with VFX make up as well as green screening and visual effects but then it was brought up to me that I might not be able to pull all of this off and it’s going to take a lot of time and effort to do the scenes with the green screen characters and it is not going to be easy. I took this advice on board and have decided to really consider how I am going to do this and if I should learn some techniques in advance if I decide to go forth with this idea.
Another thing which was brought to my attention was the concept of time management, because I’ve got a lot to film and a lot to pull off within my allotted filming and editing space I am going to have to work out how I am going to get this all done, I have got to do visual effects, green screening vfx make up and some motion graphics. I have taken this feedback on board and I’m going to create a time schedule as well as pull off test footage and test editing.
Conclusion:
I have decided to not go forth with this idea, this is due to many factors, even though with this idea I have a clear aspect of what I want to do with the different storylines and has room for me to experiment with a lot of double exposure techniques I feel as if this idea would be extremely hard to pull off in the very little time that I have to pull this project off in, this is due to the visual effects and VFX, they would take a huge amount of time to create, also with the experimentation of experimental make up and experimental test footage would be very time consuming, even though this idea would be a very fun idea to pull off my heart is not into it as much as the first idea. The feedback I was given by my focus group has also greatly influenced my decision, because I was thinking about how time consuming the process of this idea was going to be i went into the focus group open to opinions and getting a second opinion of this opened up my eyes into what idea I wanted to do.
Feedback For Idea 3 - Film Trailer About Support Group Idea
Focus group
A piece of feedback I was given was that I need to actually look at the ethics of conducting a trailer/short film about these mental health/drug/alcohol problems and look at if it is going to offend anyone or offend the actors etc.
Another piece of feedback I was given was to start idea development really early and to start giving the characters a bit of storyline behind each character and maybe initiate everyone’s separate stories in different scenes behind it.
Another piece of feedback I was given was to get a clear type of location that I wanted to use other than just saying derelict location.
I need to have a clearer idea of how I am going to pull off representing two emotions at the same time other than just colour grading.
Another piece of feedback was that I need to do a lot of idea development into what the actual scenes are going to be and what storylines I actually want to use instead of just generalising was the main piece of feedback.
Consider what music you want to use because it might help to represent the two emotions that I want to portray within the trailer/short film.
Conclusion
I have decided to not go forth with this idea due to various reasons, although there is a lot of room for experimentation with storyline and editing, from a personal viewpoint my heart is not really into it, this is due to I like the idea of making really unique and edgy and different pieces of media whereas in this idea the only unique thing about it is the fact that the group members meet up in a derelict location such as a shed which is supposed to represent a comedic element. Another personal decision was that I desperately can’t really make this funny without actually losing the hard hitting emotional side. I also took the feedback from the focus group and it opened my eyes to what I was thinking in my head anyway about how I’m going to pull off the main story line aspects as well as showing two emotions at the same time as well as actors, crew and locations.
