Recce Mood Board (Early Recce)

Here is a mood board I created within Photoshop, it showcases some locations I am thinking of using. The locations presented in this Mood Board is as follows:

  • Royal Naval Cordite Factory, Holton Heath - The Full Address is: Blackhill Road, Holton Heath, Wareham, Dorset, BH16 6NL and is presented at the bottom of this mood board. This location is an abandoned factory that they used to manufacture Cordite for the royal Navy, it was active during World War 1 for this purpose and then in World War 2 it was used to make gun propellants for the admiralty and its output was supplemented by the Royal Navy Propellant Factory in Caerwent. After becoming an admiralty research centre, a nature reserve and an industrial site during the 80’s, the site finally closed in the late 1990’s. The site is now owned by the ministry of defences. If I were to use this location I would use it for the scenes of the drug trip where the main character is walking through some very eerie and derelict locations, I would probably also use this location to film some of the mini storylines in the flashback scenes as well as some experimental footage. If I were to use this location I would have to get permission from the owners of this land which from what I can see is the Ministry Of Defence.

  • Portland ROTOR Bunker which doesn't have an address with what I could find but the postcode of the prison which is right next to it is DT5 1EQ, it is located in the middle-left of this mood board. The location is a nuclear war bunker which will hold 5000 people. The location would be excellent for my filming, I would use it for the main scenes of the main characters drug trip as well as some flashback storyline scenes. If I were to use this location legally I would have to contact the owner of the land or the owner of the bunker within itself, I have now recently found out that the owner of this land is “Fancy’s Family Farm, so if I were to film I would have to ask permission from them.

  • HM Prison, Dorchester, Dorset - The full address is: 7 N Square, Dorchester, DT1 1JD, it is located at the top of this mood board. This location is abandoned prison which has been permanently closed since December 2013 to build houses as well as building a museum with these houses. The prison has two main wings with room for less than 300 prisoners. The prison consists of 200+ tiny cells with metal framed bunk beds, a stainless steel toilet and a curtain in each room. This location would be perfect because it provides a level of eeriness which I want for my music video, I would film the scenes of the drug trip as well as other mini storylines within the main characters life.In order to use this location I would have to get permission whoever owns the building which I suspect will be the local council.

  • HMS Osprey Helicopter Control Tower, Portland, Dorset - I couldn't find a full address so I will have to some research into the full address. This Location is an abandoned Helicopter Control Tower, it would be perfect for my music video because it provides a level of eeriness like the bother locations

I found all of these locations through popular urban exploring website - www.theurbanexplorer.co.uk, I looked for locations like this because a location which is scary and eerie like this would be really good if paired with the negative side of the drug trip.

I will put some more detailed research into location scouting into my next pre-production blog post.
